Collet Pinion Adapter for LST Brushless Conversions

Overview;

The collet adapter was devised as a needed solution to eliminate standard setscrew designed adapters.  The desire was to eliminate the setscrew and also the need to grind a flat on your motor shaft, (if it did not come with one).  Parts that are designed to be mounted to a motor shaft usually have a larger hole diameter.  This results in a low concentricity tolerance and if the adapter slips it will damage your motor shaft.  Also, the adapter might wobble on the shaft causing your gear mesh to change with every revolution.  The TD-Racing Adapter will not slip.  Even if it does it will not damage the collet or your motor shaft.

Installation.

Installing the adapter is easy.  Install your choice of pinion gear. Use stock or even the popular 8-Mans pinions.  Align the adapter to match your spur gear, tighten the locking nut by hand. This will hold the adapter from sliding on the shaft.  Then, using a 19mm or 3/4  and a 5/8 crescent wrench tighten the locknut about 1/2 of a turn and it is locked on.

Watch a video of how easy it is replace the collet.  In the video I use gauge pins to represent the different motor shaft sizes.

I tighten the collet by hand only in this vid.

Watch it!!

Gear is not included with purchase.  Shown for description purposes only.

It was recently reported to me that when using the motor mount and single speed hub with the pinion adapter a 1mm shim was needed on the hub to align the pinion and spur gear.

To fix this I have shortened the pinion adapter by 1mm.  This will allow you to move your pinion gear 1mm closer to the motor mount.  This should help align the gears with little or no shimming.

Thanks Kevlar and delboy for your feedback.  This should fix the alignment.

All the orders from the holiday sale this weekend will be the new, shorter collet body.

THANKS!!!
